"Lord Ashburton" - The barque "Lord Ashburton" (1,009 tons) was wrecked on the north end of Grand Manan Island in a NE snowstorm at 2 a.m. on January 19, 1857. Eight men were saved, twenty-one men perished. One of the survivors, James Lawson, climbed the cliffs to go for help. He later returned to Grand Manan and settled here.
