The "Grand Manan III" was originally a yacht, pressed into service as minesweeper "Elk" in Second World War, purchased after the war to be a ferry for Grand Manan. Cars were hoisted onto the stern deck with a boom and metal slings on each wheel. With a capacity of 6 cars, she was refitted in 1950's to carry 9 cars. She made five trips a week to the mainland, two to Saint John and three to St. Andrews. She was replaced in 1965 with the ferry "Grand Manan".
